Creative space signs are required a lot more in London currently as there are a lot of companies using different space like ex-retail shops for their space for use or to rent out.

This client required creative space signs as they had recenetly moved into an ex-retail outlet that had a traditional shopfront with wood fascia. They required their branding to have sign writing painted onto the existing fascia. The sign writing was produced by creating a template drawn to a measured sizing before being on site. Once on site the drawing/layout was used to be reliefed onto the shopfront so the signwriting could be produced using the marked out lettering as a guide.

The signwriting is applied by hand & brush. This is a specialist job & requires a lot of precision. The wording is painted with oil based paint for durability when doing exterior work.

The larger lettering was produced first, this way if it requires a 2nd coat of paint for better coverage the larger lettering has a longer dry time so the 2nd coat can be applied onto dried paint.

The creative space signs for this premises was requested to be left justified on the fasci to be above the entrance door. The fascia was actaully not the same measurements on the left side of the fascia compared to the right. The top & bottom frame were wider apart on the left side of the panel comared to the right side. This meant lining up the branding lettering by eye to look straight rather than use the frame as a guide or the signs wouldn’t have been straight. This is something a signwriter has much experience of as its often the case that the fascias are warped uneven or like in this case not equal over the whole length.

The Sign writing was hand painted as neat as possible. the surface was deceptively unsmooth but with care & experience this is overcome with good brush stroke work.

The marking out is removed with a damp cloth after the paint has dried to the touch, leaving a fresher look as required. From this angle the fascia depth difference isn’t noticeable & the writing looks linline with the frame.

When stood further away. Its easier to see how far from straight the whole shop front was. The Area beneath the base frame is wedge shaped, the fascia itself is wedge shaped from left to right & also the the door is far from straight. This was why the sign writing had to be measured straight by eye instead of by the frame of the fascia etc. In the end its the sign writing that looks straight & actually guides your eye so the fascia then looks straight.
