Building numbers produced adjacent to the entrance door of a property investment company by Traditional Signs of London.

The client have a premises near Green Park in Central London. They wished for their building numbers to be more prominant than just a small metal number on the entrance door.

They originally requested for the company logo & branding to be written on the transom window above the entrance door, as well as the number on the masonry to the side.

The branding was to incorpoate the number in gold leaf. It was a really professional & sleek design, but was decided to just have the masonry building numbers to begin with and possibly add the window signage at a later date.

The clients had a specific typeface they wish used, so the template artwork was produced on paper using this typeface & produced in various sizes, so the most suitable could be chosen once taken to site.

Measurements of the masonry area are taken, then marked with centre lines & horizontal lines which are ensured to be level.  The artworks of the number in each size have been pre marked with guide lines. These are then lined up with the masonry measurements & guides. Once all is aligned the artwork is reliefed onto the masonry wall/pillar.

The markings are visable enough to paint to, but are just a guide & produced in powder so they are easily removed.

A specialist sign writer brush, selected with the ideal size is then used.

It’s also a specialist signwriter enamel paint used, which is mixed to a better viscosity & fluidity, to enable the sign writing to be applied far easier than if using a general oil based paint such as non drip, exterior etc.

The building numbers, when painted are built up stroke by stroke using a smaller brush, rather than just quickly produced in a few strokes with a brush the width of the number thickness.

This ensures a far crisper precise finish which is required for such a building number, especially in such a affluent & professional area such as Central London.

It’s not to look ‘arty’ it’s to look professional, sleek & precise to reflect the image of the company. This is often overlooked by other sign writers or building contractors.

Once the paint work is completed, the markings are then removed with a damp cloth ensuring the masonry is as fresh & clean as previous to marking out the building numbers.

This completed the work required for the client.

They actually chose to not go with the window signage, perhaps as the fire exit sign hindered the overall look. They actually had a lovely etched brass sign applied to the stucco, which matched the door furniture.

This gave a very smart & professional look.

Producing building numbers precise to client requirements is what Traditional Signs of London specialises in.
