Painted house numbers on brickwork is generally the street address & number of the building painted onto its walls, but it can also be numbering individual flats or apartments within a building. Quite often in London its on the portico pillars. This property had pillars but of a brickwork nature rather than the more commonly seen masonry cylindrical type.

Amateur could be the word best to describe its pre makeover! both the number to be re-produced but also its neighbour at no.50 also. This really lowers the tone of a property & makes it look far less smart & beraing in mind the value of these properties, the least it could have is a smart professionally painted property number!
.
The first stage is to remove the existing number, which had been painted over many times. Due to this it was best to just scrape off as much of it as possible. The circle had previously not be painted too neatly either, so much of the edges of this was scraped off too. It was difficult to not expose freshly scraped brick, as this would notice against the aged brickwork.
.

.
It was proving no easy task with so many layers & years of hardened paint. The important areas were scraped away before the drawn layout could be ‘pounced’ over the top, so it could be seen where to paint neatly.
.

.
The circle is then painted in carefully & slowly due to the uneven surface. A mix of ivory & white was used for historical asthetics, but also for better coverage in a durable oil based paint. This then meant a slight delay in proceedings to allow that coavering of paint to dry before signwriting the numbers
.

.
Painting house numbers on brickwork requires a specialist brush & a professional who knows how to create the numbers in neat strokes. This is somthing taught & learnt over time & not something someone untrained like a painter & decorator should do. Thats how the original badly painted numbbers no doubt occured. It may cost a bit more, but it guarentees a professional finish.
.

.
The typeface was kept to a historic & in keeping style instead of just slapping the numbers on any old how. Also the outline of the circle/roundel was produced with a specialist brush & with professional skill, which results in a far neater finish, even on a rough uneven surface.
.

.
.
the differnce is almost uncomparable. It has such a fine high end appeal in an area of historic value in West London, which can only benefit the overall appearance of the property.
