Painted wall branding for a company requiring an entrance sign to their studios produced by Traditional Signs of London.
The client had a branding & logo which was required to be painted onto a masonry wall to the side of their company’s offices/studios. The artwork for the branding was supplied by the clients. Traditional Signs of London sized up the branding to the scale required to paint onto the clients wall.
The position of the branding on the wall wasn’t exact & the clients wished to decide this on site. After discussions between themselves & Traditional Signs of London the positioning was decided. The area was then measured & the artwork placed n the ideal postion, ensuring the wording was level & upright before reliefing from the paper artwork onto the wall.

With the texture of the wall face being so uneven and having so many stipples & dimples it meant the artwork was difficult to see once reliefed. It wasn’t too bad when there was no sunshine, but bright sunlight on a white wall, with only a pale image to see is very difficult. To combat this the artwork is marked on more clearly with pencil during cloud cover & also the lines taped as a guide to know where to paint to.
Painted wall branding is not really the difficulty to apply paint to the wall, although the still requires the expertise & specialist brushes, but its more so ensuring you have a good clear visual artwork to work to.

The painted wall branding is implimented by using the specialist brushes & the skill level of a professional sign writer. The branding was 2 tone & so the more difficult to see wording was tackled first. This was using a colour matched oil based paint. The ‘centre’ of the V was produced first, along with the lettering furthest left. As can be seen from the images the markings were quite hard to see due to the wall surface, as well as when in bright sunlight.

The smallest of the lettering posed the most issue, again only really due to visibility. A smaller brush was used for these letters and also a much slower stroke to get as neat and as straight a line as possible building each letter. This is really where the skill set of a sign writer is in its element.

With the first colour completed, it was onto the much simpler bigger lettering in black paint to complete the wording. This was produced using several strokes rather than just one. It may look easier to produce single stroke lettering, but its far neater & a more professional finish to take your time & produce more stokes to build a letter.

The final steps is to clean off the charcoal & pencil marks to make good & leave a crisp clean painted wall branding for the clients. The clients came out from their offices & all approved of the completed work. This completed the day and is always good to sign off with the clients approval.
