Entrance sign hand painted on a period London residence by Traditional Signs of London, along the Thames.
A client with a stunningly beautiful home contacted Traditional Signs of London for a project, which required an
in keeping entrance sign, that oozes class & style. The client desired wording to be subtle yet still readable & noticable upon approach. A typeface was offered & shown in a visual so the client could pre-approve the sign writing. A revison was offered with otions of differing letter spacing to suit the width of the window/door frame.

The property is an absolutely stunning building set along the bank of the Thames. the entrance is actually sunken behind a wall & steps to the property. This is more than likely to form a barrier in case of the Thames flooding. So the entrance sign, which is the name of the property, was requested to be written between the ornate fanight & main entrance door. This has a vintage porch lamp fitted above it.

In order to apply the sign writing to the door lintle/frame a measurement was requested from the client prior to being on site. The measurement was used to produce an artwork on paper which was to be reliefed onto the frame so could be used as a form of template or guide.
The paper template is measured into place & relifed onto the frame. The chose typeface & letter spacing was produced to suit the age of the residence, but also to fit & suit the shape & design of the fanlight which sits above it. The lettering spans the inner arc of the fanlight ironwork.

A Specialist sign writing brush and paint is then used to create the entrance sign one letter at a time. Care, precision & skill and experience is required to create this. This is why a Sign writer is a craftsman and should be seen as a specialist & not just something the layman can produce.

With the sign writing completed the paint is given time to dry before a wet wipe is used to remove any of the marking out of the lettering & so the frame is restored back to immaculate, as prior to appliying the reliefed template/guide.
