Internal wall sign writing can also be produced using oil based enamels, masonry or acrylic paints. For added durability the oil based is advised but this is dependant on client choice & how perminant they wish the signage to be. Any enamels can be given a matt finish by adding powders. In some instances it can be better to use water based paints, especially if layering colours or altering at some point. Altering could be a change of some wording or an altered icon, logo or branding.

The clients with this project gave architectural artwork showing the typeface, positioning of the lettering & also the sizing. This meant converting this from their visual onto a paper layout drawing, which could be used to relief the artwork onto the internal wall.
The paper artwork is produced to scale with acuate sizing. Its then pin pricked along all letter edges. This creates a ‘pounce pattern’ which can relief the image onto the wall on site. When on site the artwork is measured into the specified area of wall intended for the sign writing. This is ensured by measuring walls & floor, finding a centre line (if intended to be placed in the centre) & also measuring to make sure the base line of text is level & straight.

Once confident all is in place, the artwork is ‘pounced’ onto the wall with powder. This allows each letter to be visable & be used as a guide to allow the wall sign writing to be crisp & neat.
The sign writing is produced letter by letter making sure each edge of the letter as neatly created lines. This is where the brush work skills come into play.

The lettering is painted left to right in this instance and is often the case due to being right handed.
There is no requirement as long as all lettering is painted.

The remainder of the internal wall sign writing at this project was slightly hindered by the presence of a large christmas tree, which proved hard to move. It only really hindered working at a comfortable & ideal stance to allow sign writing the last few letters.

Internal wall sign writing can be sped up by using a vinyl paint mask/template, but this isn’t always the better option. Thats due in part to plaster board still creating seeping/paint bleed. This would also be the case if the wall is uneven like brickwork or breeze/cinder blocks. It may work ok if the wall is painted, smooth skimmed plaster. So that wouold be advantagous, but for the other surfaces, despite hand painted sign writing being more time consuming, it can be the better option for a crisp defined finish to the lettering.
