House numbers painted are very much traditional in London. they can be painted in varying areas of the property, be it on the stucco or on the pillar of a portico & on a gate pier, but this property had such a period history that it required house nummbers painted on its entrance porch keystone. A keystone is the centre ‘brick’ that holds together an arched or peak formed entrance porch covering.

The property had so many period features & the client requested a typeface that suited the keystone sizing, was noticable from the road, but also was in keeping with the property’s age. So a choice of typefaces were offered given by producing a few visuals. The client chose from the selection & this typeface was produced on paper in varying sizes, to be reliefed onto the keystone once on site.

The measured artwork was reliefed onto the keystone on site, once both lines of centre had been drawn on the keytone to ensure the sign writing would be upright, straight & of good sizing. This is pretty much graphic design but in a more analog form.

The painting of the numbers doesn’t take long, just a liitle more time to ensure of a good quality neat strokes with the brush to form the best house numbers painted. The majority of this work, which requires appreciation is the preparartion work & travel to & from the premises. This has to be included in costs with this kind of project. Skill , experience & knowledge is also what is being brought to this type of work. Costs are not just based on time frame to produce two painted numbers.
The finished result is just what the client requested & it makes for a very smart finish to a very beautiful home.

The clients property was so beautiful. They gave me a tour of the house & it was kept with many period features but also infused mod cons, especially in the kitchen. The property dated back to 1794 & is located in an area of Enfield which has a whole host of properties of a similar period. Lodon is such a wealth of period properties & adding bespoke house numbers painted can enhance the look if produced by a professional in a sympathetic manner.
