Hand painted house number signwriting completed for a late Victorian residential property in South London using traditional exterior lettering and specialist signwriting paints. The bespoke numbering was carefully applied onto a flat masonry entrance pillar to provide a refined and highly legible architectural finish suited to the character of the property.

Project Brief
The client required understated exterior house numbering that would complement the character of the property while improving visibility from street level. Masonry entrance pillars often provide a particularly suitable setting for hand painted numbering on Victorian and period London properties, allowing the lettering to remain clear, balanced, and sympathetic to the surrounding architecture.
Initial layout visuals were prepared prior to the visit, with further refinements and proportional adjustments made on site following client review. Revised paper templates were then produced before the final lettering was transferred onto the surface for painting.

Traditional Exterior Signwriting
The house numbers were painted entirely by hand using traditional signwriting brushes and specialist exterior paints selected for durability and clarity. Particular attention was given to stroke consistency, edge sharpness, spacing, and overall proportion to achieve a crisp and understated finish appropriate for the property.
The completed lettering complements the surrounding brickwork and entrance detailing while remaining elegant and highly legible from street level.

Finished House Number Signwriting
The completed hand painted house numbering enhances both the visibility and presentation of the property entrance while maintaining the character of the original building.
