Traditional Painted House Names on Timber Entrance Doors

Painted house names were commissioned directly by the property owner for a pair of neighbouring properties in Enfield. The brief was to create hand painted lettering that complemented the original timber entrance doors while providing an elegant and durable means of identifying each property.

The matching entrance doors had been redecorated in a battleship grey finish, creating an ideal contrast for the lettering. A classic Roman serif alphabet was selected to complement the proportions and detailing of the entrance doors, creating a timeless appearance that sat naturally within the design of both properties.

Painted House Names on Timber Entrance Doors

Each house name was individually drawn and carefully set out across the upper rail of the entrance doors above the ornate knockers. Painted in a soft off-white with subtle grey tones, the lettering provides excellent legibility while maintaining a refined and understated appearance.

The matching timber entrance doors feature glazed upper panels above the decorative knockers, with traditional nautical-style wall lanterns framing each entrance. Positioning the lettering across the upper rail allowed the house names to become an integral part of the entrance rather than appearing as a separate sign.

Traditional House Name Signwriting

Every house name was hand painted using traditional signwriting techniques, with careful attention given to spacing, balance and brushwork. The classic Roman serif lettering creates a durable finish that complements the painted timber doors while giving each neighbouring property its own individual identity.

Hand painted house names remain a timeless alternative to manufactured plaques and modern vinyl lettering, particularly where the entrance itself forms an important feature of the property.
