Painted Keystone House Numbering for a Georgian Cottage
Bespoke painted keystone house numbering completed for Westwood Cottage, a Georgian residence dating from 1794 in Enfield. The house number was hand painted onto the entrance keystone using traditional signwriting techniques, creating elegant property identification sympathetic to the character of the historic cottage.
Project Brief
The owner wished to avoid a standard typeface in favour of lettering that better complemented the proportions and age of the property. A bespoke numeral design was therefore developed and approved before production, ensuring the finished house number suited both the tapered shape of the keystone and the architectural character of the entrance.
Traditional Keystone Lettering
The number was hand painted using specialist oil-based signwriting enamel in a gloss finish to match the painted keystone and entrance joinery. Particular attention was given to the proportions of the wide numerals, ensuring the composition remained visually balanced despite the narrowing profile of the keystone.
