Architectural Property Name Lettering for Grove Lodge, Hampstead
Architectural property name lettering completed for Grove Lodge, a distinguished Grade II-listed residence on Admiral’s Walk in Hampstead. Dating from around 1700, the property adjoins the iconic Admiral’s House, widely associated with the inspiration for Admiral Boom in Mary Poppins. Commissioned by the project architects and building management team, the lettering was painted directly onto a stippled masonry lintel using traditional signwriting techniques.

Project Brief
Working to an approved architectural specification, the property name was transferred using a traditional pounce pattern before being painted by hand with specialist oil-based signwriting enamel. The architect provided the approved typeface, proportions, spacing and placement to satisfy the project’s conservation requirements.

Traditional Masonry Lettering
Painting directly onto textured masonry requires careful preparation and precise brush control to achieve clean, consistent letterforms across an uneven surface. The completed lettering provides elegant architectural property identification while remaining sympathetic to the character of this historic period residence.
