Hand painted property numbers completed for a private London residence using traditional residential signwriting techniques. The project involved bespoke numbering carefully painted onto brick gate piers to create a refined and highly legible entrance feature suited to the surrounding architecture.

Project Brief

The client requested traditional hand painted property numbers that would remain sympathetic to the character of the building while improving visibility from street level. Guidance was provided throughout the planning stage regarding sizing, positioning, spacing, and overall proportional balance to ensure the finished work complemented the entrance architecture.

Layout & Signwriting Process

Following approval of the final layout, full-size templates were prepared and accurately scaled to suit the proportions of the brick gate piers and surrounding entrance setting. Considerable preparation was carried out prior to painting, including layout refinement, spacing adjustments, and precise positioning to ensure the completed signwriting remained visually balanced within the architectural environment.

The design was then carefully transferred onto the masonry prior to painting.

Traditional Residential Signwriting

The property numbers were hand painted using traditional signwriting brushes and specialist exterior paints selected for long-term durability and clarity. Particular attention was given to stroke weight, alignment, edge definition, spacing, and overall finish to achieve crisp and refined residential signwriting appropriate for the property.
