Gold Leaf Fanlight Numbering for a Regency Townhouse

Traditional 23ct gold leaf fanlight numbering completed for the entrance of a Regency townhouse on Albion Street, part of the historic Tyburnia estate near Hyde Park, London. The bespoke property number was hand water gilded onto the decorative circular glazed roundel within the fanlight, creating refined entrance identification sympathetic to the building’s original architectural character.

Project Brief

The circular glazed roundel required careful cleaning and preparation before gilding could begin. The property number was individually drawn and refined to suit the proportions of the glass, combining elegant script characteristics with traditional numeral forms to achieve the client’s preferred appearance before being hand produced in genuine 23ct gold leaf.

Traditional Reverse Glass Water Gilding

The numbering was completed using traditional reverse glass water gilding techniques to achieve a bright mirror finish. Fine black outlining was then added by hand before the reverse of the gilding received a protective backing to provide long-term durability while preserving the brilliance of the gold leaf.
