Hand painted address lettering and house numbers completed for a prestigious Belgravia residence using traditional exterior signwriting and specialist architectural paints. The bespoke lettering was carefully applied directly onto the stucco façade beside the entrance to create a more refined and visually appropriate alternative to the existing fanlight window numbering.

Project Brief
The client required both the property number and street name to be incorporated into the façade using a traditional style of exterior lettering more sympathetic to the scale and character of the building. A classical Trajan style typeface was selected following extensive layout discussions, sizing refinements, and positioning adjustments carried out throughout the design process.

The project presented additional challenges due to the recessed stucco grooves surrounding the chosen location, requiring careful consideration of spacing, alignment, and scale in order to achieve a visually balanced result that satisfied the client’s preferred positioning.
Traditional Stucco Lettering
The address lettering and house numbers were painted entirely by hand using traditional signwriting brushes and specialist exterior paints selected for durability, opacity, and sharp edge definition on stucco surfaces.
Particular attention was given to serif detail, stroke consistency, spacing, and overall proportion to ensure the finished lettering remained elegant, highly legible, and architecturally balanced within the surrounding façade.

Finished Exterior Address Signwriting
The completed hand painted address lettering provides a refined architectural feature more appropriate to the character of the property than the previous applied window numbering.
