Property signs produced internally using 12ct White Gold.

A client with a stunningly beautiful home contacted Traditional Signs of London for a project, which required a high end, professional look, that oozes class & style. The client desired wording to be added to each door of the rooms within the property in a white gold at a subtle scale.

Producing gold leaf sign writing is as much about preparation as it is about production.

When a client, like with this project has a very fine residence which is to the highest of standard, its so important that the signage is impecable too. To produce property signs of this type, the preparation is well thought out & even a plan b is produced just in case something happens to the plan a preparation artworks, such as, torn, gets wet, lost or any other incident that can & has occurred previously. Its time consuming to produce all the preparations but worth it when it comes to the production so there is less that can go wrong.

Its often overlooked but its key in producing fine signs to a great standard especially when working with genuine gold leaves. They can be finiky to work with in themselves.

In order to apply the gold to the doors its firstly measured to enusre the wording will be centred. Its then written out or a template is used. A specialist glue mixed with some paint is then applied letter by letter using sign writing skills & expertise. Just as the specialist ‘glue’ (known as size) is setting & is still slightly tacky, the gold leaf is applied. Its then allowed to dry before being burnished with a specialist soft brush or velvet cloth.

This then leaves just the lettering coated in gold, in this case 12ct White Gold, which has a silver appearance. This is better to use than silver leaf, as silver will tarnish, where as the gold wouldn’t.

The method is carefully & labour intensively reprodced for every single door. There were 20+ doors in total to produce & the on site work was carried out over several days. To have a high end finish these things can’t be rushed. The client expects quality & to produce quality you can’t cut corners. The work is more taxing on an aching body due to the crouching, kneeling etc, more so than the sign writing itself.

It was fairly evenly split between doors on the ground floor & those on the upper floors. It was the best approach to produce all on the ground floor within a day. It proved to be the longest day, but also the most satisfying in terms of production & clients satisfaction. The white gold glinting & almost looking illuminated as light reflects of it. Property signs produced of this nature have such destinction & appeal even if only for the clients, resisdents & their guests. In that way it has high exclusivity.

A project that took several days to produce but there is no time pressure when clients prefer a high end product which has consideration for production, labour intensitivity & skill level. The best things are produced when not rushed. The clients were extremely happy with the results.
