Office wall signs are quite varied, not just in the nature of the company’s logo design, branding or ethos but also in terms of scale & surface its produced on. Some companies go with acrylic 3d signage, some with vinyl, but there are some who wish for painted signage or designs. This is where Traditional Signs of London can assist. The internal wall/s can be small or large & then the the sign can fill the wall or be very subtle.

This project was to be the clients logo & brand name on their main office wall. The area to be painted was only a section of the entire wall. The section chosen had a recess, which meant the pattern/template produced had to be split into 3 sections. The pattern/template is produced prior to being on site & is produced by enlarging the logo/branding to scale & then printing/pouncing via a digital plotter. This ensures better accuracy than hand drawing the logo/branding to scale.

The artwork/pattern is measured into place, once the wall itself has been measured & the centre lines are found & marked out. The centre lines are also marked on the artwork/pattern, so these are aligned & efforts are made to ensure the artwork is both in the correct position, but also level/upright. This can pose problematic with a brick wall as no wall lines or bricks are straight, so either a laser is used or simply by eye. This is the older method which is said, ‘if it looks straight it, it is straight’. This is the practice for if the walls themselves aren’t plumb. This tends to be simpler a method the smaller the artwork is.

Painting office wall signs requires an array of materials & this includes a variety of brushes dependant on the scale of artwork & the wall surface. In this instance the letters were really big & all in one colour, which meant using a specialist brush to enusre each line/edge of the letters were as neat & crisp as can be, then filling in the letters with a large brush. Some specialist tape was used to give a very precise edge to the letters.

The logo of the company was technically challenging. It may appear simple as it comprises circles/roundels within a lozenge shape. The reason this proved a challenge was due to the indents of the bricks, the angle the recess is seen from & that the edge of pertruding section of wall was far from straight. The image below shows this off better when the image is seen straight on. This meant a fair bit of adjusting to make ideal.

This was rectified, but after the rest of the logo/branding was produced. It allowed for the paint to dry & able to be painted over where required.

The project was completed with each letter snagged along with the logo, which is a camera lens. The clients are actually providers of images from space, with use of their cameras & tech. Its very impressive to see! They were appreciative of the work produced on their wall & realised the snags of the unstraight walls were troublesome but overcome.
