Painting property numbers in Kensington, West London by Traditional Signs of London.

The small project came through a property management company who had contracted Traditional Signs of London for this specialist work. They were ensuring that the painted property numbers were finished to an exacting standard that the residence deserves, which is exactly what Traditional Signs of London aim to achieve for the clients.

As always a visual was prepared & shown to the clients so both parties were in agreement, before the on site section of the project was completed, of the typeface size & placement of property nnumbers.

The visual showed placement to be of similar positioning to the previous numbers, but the premises was to have a porch light & intercom added, which meant a slightly moved over numbering.

The clients also wished to alter the numbers to a more traditional Trajan Roman serif style, as aposed to the Times new Roman if had reviously & as shown in the visual.

Adjustments can be made at this point if required, its better that the client has a defined idea of what the end product will be proir to being on site.

The templates are taken to site having been produced on paper. The guide lines are measured & marked & ensuring the numbers will be level, upright and in the desired placement.

Then the ideal sized template is reliefed onto the pier with a powder that is able to be wiped clean after sign writing. It just acts as a guide for neat precise painting property numbers.

The numbers are painted using a specialist brush  & by hand using sign writing expertise.

These numbers are not 1 stroke lettering, they are created with a series of strokes to create the letter & ensuring a precise edge all the way round each number.

More care is taken & precison is required if being produced on an uneven or stipple finish masonry.

In this instance it was a little bit of a stretch to reach & paint, due to the railings in place. A cushion is used to rest against, which eases the discomfort a little.

Its makes for precise paintwork a little more challenging, but is overcome with care & skill.

The final work to be done when painting property numbers is to remove any of the markings produced in charcoal, which were used as a guide. This is done with a wet cloth, leaving the area pristine & just the painted numbers looking crisp, precise & stand out as required.
