An extensive scheme of internal architectural wayfinding and white gold gilded door lettering completed for a distinguished historic private estate using traditional signwriting and gilding techniques. The commission comprised 35 interior doors, each lettered in a matching classical Roman serif typeface with a refined white gold finish, creating a discreet and unified wayfinding system throughout the principal residence.

Project Brief

Set within approximately 40 acres of private grounds, this prestigious Edwardian estate combines historic architecture with exceptional contemporary amenities, including a private cinema, sports and pool facilities.

The client commissioned a bespoke internal wayfinding scheme that would provide clear room identification while remaining sympathetic to the character of the building.

Every door was specified to receive lettering at a consistent 2cm capital height, with the precise positioning determined by the client to achieve a balanced and understated appearance throughout the property.

Maintaining absolute consistency in typography, proportion, spacing and alignment across all 35 doors was fundamental to creating a cohesive architectural wayfinding scheme that complemented both the original period features and the carefully considered interior renovations.

Traditional White Gold Architectural Lettering

Each room name was individually produced by hand using traditional signwriting and gilding techniques. A finely proportioned classical Roman serif typeface was selected for its timeless architectural character, while the white gold finish offered an elegant, restrained contrast against the ivory-painted doors.

The subtle finish allows the lettering to integrate naturally with the surrounding interiors, providing refined identification without competing with the architecture or decorative detailing of the residence.

Finished Architectural Wayfinding

The completed scheme delivers discreet internal navigation while reinforcing the architectural coherence of the estate. Rather than relying on conventional signage, the carefully proportioned lettering forms an integral part of the interior design, providing a consistent visual language throughout the principal building.
